Terms of Service
machine.work runs growth for small businesses: it reads how your website, ads and inbox are doing, proposes one change at a time, makes the change once it’s approved, and measures what happened. These terms are the agreement between your business and us for using it.
DRAFT This is a working draft, written from what the product does today. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer and is not in force until the effective date above is set. Highlighted items are decisions still to be made.
Who we are
machine.work is run from Sydney, Australia. [OWNER TO CONFIRM] legal entity name, ABN and postal address. In these terms “we” and “us” means that entity, and “you” means the business that signs up, and the people it adds to its account.
By creating an account or using machine.work you agree to these terms on behalf of your business, and you confirm you have the authority to do that. machine.work is for businesses; it isn’t for personal or household use.
The service
machine.work is software, delivered online, that works in channels you choose: SEO and AI search, Google Ads, Meta Ads, Creative and Outbound. In each one it:
- reads data from the platforms you connect — what it reads, per platform, is listed in our privacy policy;
- proposes changes in plain English, with the reason for each;
- makes a change on your website, ad account or mailbox only once it’s approved, or when it’s a type of change you’ve let ship on its own (below);
- measures what each change did and reports it to you.
The free audit at machine.work/audit is part of the service too. It crawls a public website and reports what it finds, without an account. Anyone with an audit’s link can view its report.
We keep improving machine.work, so features will change. [OWNER TO CONFIRM] whether, and how far ahead, we tell account owners before removing a feature of a channel they pay for.
Accounts and access
- You sign in with your email address or with Google. Keep access to that email and Google login secure: anyone who can sign in as you can act for your business.
- Your account can have several people. Owners and admins can approve changes, connect platforms, manage billing and invite others; viewers can look but not act. You decide who you add and are responsible for what they do in the account.
- An account can hold more than one business. Each business has its own connections, plan and billing.
- Tell us at hello@machine.work straight away if you think someone has got into your account who shouldn’t have.
Your responsibilities
- Accurate business information. The agent writes from what you tell it — your services, areas, offers, prices, competitors and what’s off-limits — and from the facts you keep in “What we know”. Keep them true and current. It can’t know that a claim about your business is wrong if you told it so.
- Authority over what you connect. Only connect websites, ad accounts, mailboxes, stores and workspaces that your business owns or is authorised to manage, and only grant access you’re entitled to grant.
- What you approve. You are responsible for the content and changes you approve, and for the types of change you let ship on their own. Review proposals before you approve them: they’re written with AI and can contain mistakes. Edit or decline anything that isn’t right.
- Your obligations to others. Your website, ads and emails are still your business’s communications. Advertising standards, consumer law, industry rules and the platforms’ own policies apply to them as they would if you’d made the change yourself.
- Outbound email. If you use Outbound, the emails go from your mailbox, in your business’s name. Complying with Australia’s Spam Act (and the equivalent law where the people you contact are) is a shared job. We put your sender identity — your legal name and ABN or address — and a one-click unsubscribe in every email, keep a permanent suppression list, and record where each address was published for business contact. You make sure your sender details are correct, that what you offer is relevant to the people Outbound writes to, and that you don’t add people who haven’t agreed to hear from you. These tools help; on their own they don’t make an email compliant.
Autonomy and approvals
You choose how much the agent may do without asking, separately for each type of change:
- Ask first
- The change waits for an approval from an owner or admin — in the dashboard, by email or in Slack. This is the default.
- Ship & tell
- The change ships, then we tell you. You can revert it.
- Autonomous
- The change ships on its own. It’s recorded in the log, without a message each time.
Whatever you set, a change that spends money — a budget, a bid, a new campaign — always needs a person to approve it. The one exception is a pause guardrail you agree to when setting up a Meta ads test: it can pause an ad that crosses the spend limit you set. It can only pause; it never raises spend or starts anything.
When you choose Ship & tell or Autonomous for a type of change, you are approving changes of that type in advance, and these terms treat them as approved by you. You can change any setting, or decline a pending proposal, at any time. A change that clearly didn’t help is proposed for undoing, and that goes through the same approval.
Results aren’t guaranteed
machine.work aims to grow your enquiries, and we report honestly on whether each change helped — including when it didn’t. But we can’t promise outcomes. Search rankings, what AI assistants say, and how ads perform depend on Google, Meta, AI providers, your competitors, your market and the season, none of which we control. Our measurements are estimates: we compare what changed against what didn’t, which reduces noise but can’t remove it.
Nothing machine.work proposes is legal, financial or tax advice.
Fees, trial and billing
- Per-channel pricing. You pay for the channels you choose, each at the price on our pricing page when you add it. Your business has one subscription with one line per channel, billed in advance monthly or, where offered, yearly. [OWNER TO CONFIRM] currency, and whether prices include GST.
- Free trial. A new account starts with a 14-day free trial. A business only gets one trial. If you add a card while it’s running, billing starts when the trial ends (or straight away if less than two days of it remain). If the trial ends without a subscription, the account becomes read-only until you subscribe. [OWNER TO CONFIRM] whether a card is required to start the trial.
- Payment. Stripe processes payments; we never see or store your card number. If a payment fails, we email you and the affected channels keep running for a grace period (7 days unless we tell you otherwise). After that they pause until the payment goes through. [OWNER TO CONFIRM] what an unpaid account can still see and do — the current default is read-only access, no new proposals and nothing shipped.
- Changing your plan. You can add or remove a channel any time from Settings → Billing. The change is prorated: a credit or extra charge appears on your next invoice.
- Cancelling. There’s no lock-in contract. Cancel any time in the billing portal (Settings → Billing → Manage billing). [OWNER TO CONFIRM] cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for.
- Refunds. [OWNER TO CONFIRM] refund policy (for example, none for part-periods, beyond what the law requires). Nothing in these terms limits a refund you’re entitled to under the Australian Consumer Law.
- Price changes. [OWNER TO CONFIRM] how, and how far ahead, we tell account owners before a price they’re paying goes up.
- Ad spend isn’t ours. Your ad accounts stay yours. You pay Google and Meta for ad spend directly, on your own billing with them; it never passes through us and we take no cut of it.
- Managed plans. If we invoice you directly under a separate written agreement, that agreement’s fees and payment terms apply instead of this section.
Acceptable use
Don’t use machine.work to:
- publish, advertise or send anything unlawful, misleading, defamatory or infringing, or anything a platform’s policies forbid;
- send unsolicited commercial email, or email people who have unsubscribed or complained;
- connect or change websites or accounts you aren’t authorised to manage;
- get around the approval rules, spend limits, billing or rate limits — including on the free audit — or another business’s access controls;
- overload, probe or attack the service, or copy, reverse-engineer or resell it [OWNER TO CONFIRM] terms for agencies managing several clients’ businesses.
If you do, we may decline to ship a change, pause a channel, or suspend the account (below).
Other platforms
machine.work works through other companies’ platforms: Google, Meta, Webflow, Wix, WordPress, Framer, GoHighLevel, Shopify, Ghost, Microsoft 365, Gmail, Notion, Slack, Fathom, Fireflies and others. Your use of each is governed by your agreement with that company, not by us. They can change their APIs, reject or limit ads, suspend accounts, or stop working with apps like ours, and we aren’t responsible for what they do. When a platform stops something working, we’ll tell you and do what we reasonably can.
Your data and privacy
Our privacy policy says what we collect, why, who processes it for us and how long we keep it. It forms part of these terms. For your business’s data — including your customers’ and prospects’ details — you decide what goes in and we process it on your behalf.
You can export your business’s data, disconnect any platform, or delete a business or your whole account at any time in Settings → Your data, and see the status of a deletion request at machine.work/legal/data-deletion.
Who owns what
- Yours. Your business information, your content, the data from your platforms, and the changes, articles, ads and emails made for you and approved are yours. You let us use them only to provide machine.work to you. Changes already published to your website stay there if you leave.
- Ours. machine.work itself — the software, the agent, the dashboard, our methods and this website — belongs to us. You get the right to use it while you subscribe, and nothing more.
- Similar output. The agent may write similar suggestions for other businesses; that doesn’t make yours less yours.
- Feedback. If you send us ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
[OWNER TO CONFIRM] whether we may use aggregated, de-identified data across accounts to improve the service.
Ending the service
- You can cancel any time (above), and delete a business or your account in Settings → Your data. Deletion stops the agent at once; after a 7-day grace period, in which you can cancel it, we revoke every connection and permanently delete the data, as our privacy policy describes.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, doesn’t pay after the grace period, or puts other people, platforms or the service at risk, or when the law requires it. Where it’s reasonable we’ll warn you first and give you time to fix the problem. [OWNER TO CONFIRM] notice period before we close an account, and for ending the service for everyone.
- When the service ends, the agent stops: no more proposals, publishing, spending or emails. Export your data before deleting it. The sections on fees owed, who owns what, liability and governing law continue to apply.
Warranties and liability
The Australian Consumer Law. Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under it, or under any other law that can’t be excluded.
Subject to that:
- machine.work is provided as it is and as available. We don’t promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any result will follow from a change.
- Where the law lets us limit our liability for failing a consumer guarantee, it is limited to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
- We aren’t liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit, revenue or data, or for loss caused by a platform’s actions, by information you gave us that was wrong, or by changes you approved or let ship.
- Our total liability under or in connection with these terms is capped at [OWNER TO CONFIRM] cap — for example, the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim.
[OWNER TO CONFIRM] whether to include an indemnity from the customer for content they approve and accounts they connect without authority.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia, and you and we submit to the courts of New South Wales. [OWNER TO CONFIRM] governing law and jurisdiction. If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll email account owners before the change takes effect. [OWNER TO CONFIRM] notice period. If you keep using machine.work after that date, the new terms apply; if you don’t agree, you can cancel before then.
